Before you can migrate data for a specific object, you need to ensure that the following tasks are completed:
* Predecessor objects have been migrated: Some migration objects depend on other migration objects that need to be migrated first. For example, before you can migrate sales orders, you need to migrate customers, products, and pricing conditions. You can check the dependencies of migration objects in the Migration Cockpit or in the Migration Object Modeler12.
* Permission to migrate the data has been assigned: In addition to having permission to access the Migrate Your Data app, you need permission to migrate each type of data. This is because the Migration Cockpit tool uses the same APIs and technical checks that would be done if you were to create a new data value through the respective application. For example, if you need to create a new bank record in your system, you would use the application, Manage Banks - Master Data. The app would present you with several fields capturing information about the new bank to create the record in your system. Now if you need to create 1,000 banks, it wouldn't be feasible to create each through the Manage Banks - Master Data app one-by-one. Therefore, you need to have the permission to use the Manage Banks - Master Data app in order to migrate bank data using the Migration Cockpit3.
The other tasks are not mandatory before you can migrate data for a specific object. You can select different migration methods for different objects, depending on your source system and data format. You can also have multiple migration projects in progress at the same time, as long as they do not contain the same migration objects4. You specify the data retention period in the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit when the project status is
"Finished". The data retention period is the length of time (in days) that the project and all associated data is kept in the system after you have set the status of the project to Finished. To do this, set the option Data Retention Period to On. The data will be deleted from the SAP S/4HANA system when the data retention time expires. If you set the option Data Retention Period to Off, then the project and all associated data will be kept in the system indefinitely. You can also change the retention time for finished projects on the Technical Information tab of the project settings. Indirect digital access occurs when humans, devices, or systems use the digital core indirectly through non- SAP intermediary software, such as a non-SAP front end, a custom-solution, or any other non-SAP application1. Indirect digital access is measured by the number of documents created, updated, or deleted in the SAP system as a result of the indirect use2. Examples of indirect digital access include:
* A Defect document created through an industry application: This is an example of indirect digital access because the industry application is a non-SAP software that triggers the creation of a document in the SAP system.
* A Time Sheet Record from a 3rd party application: This is also an example of indirect digital access because the 3rd party application is a non-SAP software that triggers the creation of a document in the SAP system.
* An unattended bot in SAP Build Process Automation: This is not an example of indirect digital access because the bot is using SAP software to access the SAP system directly, not through a non-SAP intermediary software.
* A Production Order created through a non-SAP front-end: This is not an example of indirect digital access because the production order is not a document type that is counted for indirect digital access. The document types that are counted are: Sales Order, Invoice, Purchase Order, Service and Maintenance Document, Manufacturing Document, Quality Management Document, Time Sheet, Financial Document, and Material Document2.
