On high-end SRX platforms, control-plane (Routing Engine-destined) traffic transits the loopback (lo0) and is best captured by applying afirewall filter on lo0 with the then sample action, together withtraffic samplingunder forwarding-options to write packets to a file.
* sample sends matched control-plane packets to the sampling process, which can record them for analysis.
* datapath-debug capture focuses on data-plane/SPC paths and is not the tool for generic control-plane packet capture.
* tcpdump from shell is not the supported workflow on SRX; the operational command is monitor traffic, but forhigh-endcontrol-plane capture, the recommended and scalable method islo0 filter + sampling.
* Port mirroring mirrors transit data-plane traffic, not RE-destined control-plane packets.

SRX Series devices provide content security features that rely on advanced identification mechanisms. File identification is not based merely on file extensions (which can be easily spoofed), but instead on deep inspection techniques:
AppID (Application Identification): AppID is part of the AppSecure suite, allowing the device to classify applications and content regardless of port or protocol. This enables the SRX to detect applications and their related content for enforcement.
Protocol-based file type identification: The SRX can recognize and identify file types embedded within HTTP, FTP, and e-mail (SMTP, IMAP, POP3) protocols. This provides accurate content inspection and filtering, independent of file naming conventions.
Why not the others?
File extensions (Option A) are not reliable for content security, so SRX does not use them.
ALGs (Option D) are used for protocol handling, such as SIP or FTP control channels, not for content identification.

The Routing Engine is the control-plane component in Junos OS. It runs routing protocols, maintains routing tables, handles system management functions, and derives the forwarding table from active routes. Juniper documentation explains that the Routing Engine constructs and maintains routing tables and then copies the forwarding table into the Packet Forwarding Engine. The Routing Engine kernel also provides communication with the PFE and keeps the PFE forwarding table synchronized with the master copy on the Routing Engine. Therefore, options B and C are correct. Option A is incorrect because the PFE does not manage the Routing Engine; the relationship is the opposite. Option D is incorrect because transit packet forwarding is performed by the Packet Forwarding Engine, while the Routing Engine controls and programs forwarding behavior.

For an SRX firewall interface to respond to management traffic such as ICMP pings:
* Theinterface must be assigned to a security zone(Option A). If an interface is not part of any zone, it is placed into the null zone, which drops all traffic.
