The first task in PRINCE2's recommended approach to 'defining and analyzing the products' is writing the Project Product Description. This document outlines what the project must deliver in order to gain acceptance. It serves as the basis for defining and analyzing more detailed product descriptions later in the process. The result of the change derived from using the project's product is referred to as the 'outcome'. An outcome is the effect of the change, typically a new capability that the project's outputs enable within the organization.
This differs from outputs (which are tangible deliverables of the project) and benefits (which are the measurable improvements resulting from an outcome).

One of the objectives of the Closing a Project process is to produce a Benefits Review Plan. This plan outlines how the benefits of the project will be measured and reviewed after the project has been closed. It is crucial for ensuring that the benefits expected from the project are tracked and assessed in the post-project phase.
