XQL Correlation Hunting enables analysts to combine network and endpoint telemetry into a single investigation workflow. Correlating rare domain communications with unsigned binary execution helps identify sophisticated attack chains that may otherwise remain undetected.

In Cortex XDR, an endpoint can only belong to one static group at a time. If endpoints listed in the upload file are already members of an existing static group, they cannot be added to the new group and will be excluded from the count. This would explain why fewer endpoints (244) appear in the group than were specified in the file (321) - those 77 endpoints were already assigned to another static group.
When using the Upload From File feature, Cortex XDR matches the entries in the file against existing registered agents in the tenant using identifiers such as:
IP address
Hostname
Alias
If any entry in the file does not match an agent that has already registered with the tenant, that endpoint is simply not added to the group. Unregistered, decommissioned, or incorrectly identified endpoints will be silently skipped, reducing the actual member count below the expected number.

To reduce the bandwidth costs associated with thousands of endpoints downloading updates directly from the Palo Alto Networks cloud (Cortex XDR tenant), you need to localize the distribution of files. Both selected techniques achieve this effectively:
Cortex XDR supports Peer-to-Peer (P2P) distribution for agent upgrades and content updates.
When enabled, endpoints on the same local subnet share downloaded files with each other.
Instead of 1,000 remote or office machines downloading a 100MB update from the internet, only a few download it from the cloud, and the rest pull it locally over the LAN/wlan, dramatically slashing external bandwidth costs.
By deploying an on-premise Broker VM and enabling its caching capabilities, it acts as a local proxy server for Cortex XDR. The Broker VM downloads the content updates and agent installers once from the cloud, and all local endpoints point to the Broker VM to pull their updates, keeping internet bandwidth consumption to an absolute minimum.
