In the Huawei SD-WAN architecture, the RR (Route Reflector) is responsible for distributing VPN routes and tunnel information. While in large-scale deployments the RR is often a standalone high-performance router or a virtual machine in the cloud, in small and medium-sized deployments, a physical CPE (Customer Edge) device can function as the RR. This "collocated" mode reduces hardware costs and simplifies the network hierarchy for smaller organizations.

In a typical campus hierarchy, a Layer 2 switch does not perform routing for user traffic. Therefore, its VLANIF interface is not used as a default gateway (Service IP). Instead, it is configured with a Management IP address to allow administrators or the iMaster NCE-Campus controller to access the device via SSH, SNMP, or NETCONF for configuration and O & M purposes.

Huawei AR routers support multiple deployment modes to simplify branch rollout. These include DHCP Option 148-based deployment, barcode scanning via the CloudCampus app for quick configuration, and registration query center-based deployment for centralized management.
Email-based deployment is not supported.

The CloudEngine S16700 is Huawei's flagship core switch for large-scale enterprise campuses. It features an orthogonal Clos architecture with massive per-slot bandwidth (up to 14.4 Tbps). To support the evolution to ultra-high-speed backbones, the S16700 supports a high-density 400GE line card that provides 18 ports per board. When fully populated (8 slots), the S16700-8 chassis can support up to 144x400GE ports.

NETCONF uses XML to encode configuration data, remote procedure calls (RPCs), and responses. XML provides a standardized, structured format that enables devices to exchange configuration and management information reliably over a network.
